Novel Presents HAAi (5hrs) & S.A.M.
Sun 12th Jan
Revolver Upstairs

We are happy to welcome two international talents to Revolver Upstairs, HAAi (5 hrs) and S.A.M.

Sydney ex-pat, UK native HAAi has become synonymous with experimentation in her works. Infusing heavy bass lines, breaks, thumping techno, and worldly percussion within her original productions and her sets, her 2018 debut album Motorik Voodoo Bush Doof Music released on her Coconut Beats imprint perfectly summarises her unique sound. Having already landed a residency with Phonox, Rinse FM, and Worldwide FM, her BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix went on to win the Essential Mix of the Year, earning HAAi a monthly Radio 1 slot. Look no further than her recent Boiler Room x AVA Festival mix which is nearing 100,000 plays, for reference of her big on stage energy which will no doubt be brought to the cage.

Joining HAAi will be S.A.M., the Danish artist who has graced stages everywhere from Fabric, to Robert Johnson, Rex Club and Sankeys, showcasing a sound that can be characterised as cosmic, trippy, and psychedelic with foundations in dance music. Alongside his solo career, S.A.M. is one third of Mandar with artists Lazare Hoche and Malin Genie, as well as curating record labels Delaphine, Dahlia, and Oscillat Music, which houses his own productions, and works from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Butch, and Mathew Dekay. We’d recommend taking work off on Monday, these two are not to be taken lightly. .

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land this event is taking place upon, the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, and we pay our respects to their elders of past, present and future.

Plucked from relative obscurity, 3 years ago HAAi was instilled as the Saturday night resident for London club Phonox, with her residency coming to an end in September 2018 after a run of sold-out closing parties & her debut Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 being named the Essential Mix of the Year. In this time, her profile has grown exponentially, now playing shows and festivals all over the world to thousands of revellers who have bought into her propulsive and eclectic selections. HAAi is an avid collector of Thai and Turkish funk, tripped-out psychedelic records and Nigerian and Kenyan beats. Playing for 6 hours every Saturday night has allowed her to seamlessly mix these genres in with her love of techno, creating an unrivalled experience for the adoring fans she plays to around the globe. The launch of her label ‘Coconut Beats’ has so far seen 4 releases, ‘DaDaDa’, ‘Be Good’, ‘FEELS’ and HAAi’s debut EP ‘Motorik Voodoo Bush Doof Musik’, released to critical acclaim, championed by BBC Radio 1, 6Music, Red Bull, Mixmag, Resident Advisor and scores of other top tier publications. There’s no doubt that HAAi was one of the fastest rising stars of 2019 and 2020 is already shaping up to be bigger than ever, seeing bookings in all 4 corners of the world, HAAi is establishing herself as one of the finest selectors in the game

Whether working under his Mandar, Rev – S or NWS aliases, S.A.M.’s fusion of psychedelic house and techno is unique and accessible in equal spades. As the founder and curator of Oscillat, Delaphine and Dahlia record labels, his labels house works from artists Ricardo Villalobos, Butch and Matthew Dekay alongside his own original productions. Earlier this year his track ‘Fury’s Laughter’ spent weeks on Beatport’s charts at number one, an infectious slice of summer tech-house that displaced Australian producer Fisher’s massive run at Beatport’s top. In recent times the Danish artist has become a bona fide international DJ, spending most of his days playing globally at venues like Rex, Fabric, Robert Johnson and Sankeys alongside festivals including Amsterdam Open Air Festival and Organik Festival.
