While others have stood back and allowed the sands of time to wash over them, there are artists who relentlessly rebuild themselves, searching for a new place in the sun. Day after day, hour after hour, piece after piece. Within the work lies the reinvention, evolution, never standing still. Daniel Avery is one of those rare artists. On first moving to London he became one of Fabric’s youngest ever resident DJs, creating a mix for their Fabriclive series and releasing on seminal labels like Optimo, Throne Of Blood and Relish, staking claim on a sound that Andrew Weatherall would label as “gimmick-free machine funk of the highest order.” A collection of EPs for Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label saw him break through into a broader consciousness - 3 records which, along with their remixes, would provide the foundation of his universally acclaimed debut album “Drone Logic” and push him to true headline status around the world. A certain global renown has allowed time and space to refine concepts, new ideas and thoughts - and to curate his own “Divided Love” parties around the world, hosting some of the sounds and concepts that inspire his work, alongside a selection of his close friends and contemporaries, like Factory Floor, KiNK and Helena Hauff. Last year’s entry into the DJ-Kicks collection was further proof of an artist with energy and vision all of their own. Whilst Avery works in the studio putting the finishing touches to new music, his 2017 tour of Australia sees him in a unique place - a moment where he can showcase his finely-honed, high-energy techno on the mainstage of Harbourlife and Strawberry Fields, whilst also taking to some of his favourite smaller Australian venues a relentlessly considered journey through the textured psychedelia of his own releases on a longer, grander scale, with more room to move, more room to vibe, more room to envelop people with the skills that have set him apart on the world stage. Carefully specified to the finest of details, these promise to be a truly captivating experience for both the fan and the newcomer alike, alongside his long term Australian collaborators at Novel, Thick As Thieves and Motorik - all night experiences to remember.
