Novel & Nights Like This join forces once again, to welcome a string of the world’s most beloved figures within modern dance music. ANNA, DJ Koze, Gerd Janson, Luna Semara + Stephan Bodzin (Live). A host of artists who have graced the world’s biggest stages more than once, and have an endless list of global achievements and accolades to their name - their return to Sydney will deliver a tour de force of techno & house music.
ANNA: The last 3 years of Brazilian artist ANNA’s career has seen her reach entirely new heights. Her dedication to honing her craft has seen her perform at Warung, D-Edge, Time Warp, Awakenings, Tomorrowland, DC10 and Movement Detroit, quickly asserting a space for herself alongside the biggest names in techno. On a production front, she’s dropped critically acclaimed music on the world’s most significant record labels; Hotflush, Drumcode, Afterlife, and Domino, remixing works for artists such as Jon Hopkins, and earning the nod of approval from Mixmag, and DJ Mag. ANNA beautifully executes a brand of techno that is as moving as it is impactful, peaking and flowing perfectly for any packed-out stadium or arena.
DJ Koze: As an artist, DJ Koze exists a little outside of time. Not only because his records can take you to places where everything seems to stop, but because he manages to function on a timeline completely detached from the usual cycles of hype, influence, club hits, and career progression that govern so many artists today. His productions and releases, whether on labels Kompakt, Get Physical, or his own imprint label Pampa, have gone on to become some of dance music’s most beloved and iconic. Having contributed to !K7’s DJ Kicks series, and remixed now-infamous tracks for Lapsley, Moderat, Caribou, Mount Kimbie & more, he remarkably out achieves himself year after year. Outside of obvious influence, outside of trend and hype – but right inside a circle of great artists with gifted talents - DJ Koze keeps on keeping on.
Gerd Janson: The DJ’s DJ turned people’s DJ, Gerd Janson is one of the most highly respected DJs in the world. His genre-less philosophy towards music sees him fuse funk, disco, house and techno, with left-field sub-genres such as synth-pop, industrial, or indie dance. Look no further than his Running Back imprint, one of the underground’s leading labels, a label that houses classic after classic, showcasing quality without being flashy - a style reflected in Gerd’s own music. A DJ versatile enough to rock any dance floor, a DJ who cares about the profession of DJing, there’s a reason Gerd remains one of the biggest selectors the world has on offer.
Luna Semara: The German artist, with a French and African background, certainly feels at home on the global music stage. She knows how to manipulate the environment and create the perfect dance conditions for her audience. Having moved to Berlin in the late 90s, she felt safe in the dark concrete rooms of Tresor where heavy techno was played, and this mixture of pumping bass, beats and synths, captured her heart. Luna Semara has performed at Rex in Paris, Rocker33 in Stuttgart, IPSE in Berlin and Spartacus in Aix-en-Provence. On a production front, her first EP ‘The Pink Room’ appeared on Stephan Bodzin’s label Herzblut Recordings in 2015, and received industry praise from the likes of Marc Romboy, John Digweed, Christian Smith, Thomas Schumacher and Gregor Tresher. This showcase will be an Australian debut for Luna, and comes highly anticipated.
Stephan Bodzin (Live): At this stage in his longstanding career, Stephan Bodzin is very much his own man. His extensive achievements don’t matter to him. He is on a mission to interest and surprise himself, to find new musical avenues and explore different perspectives. Considered one of the most thrilling live shows in techno, his most recent album ‘Boavista’ and its accompanying world tour exhibits his essence beautifully. The music on ‘Boavista’ is bright and colourful, whilst still holding his trademark synth sounds that have long defined Bodzin's output, mostly on his own Herzblut Recordings label, but also more recently Afterlife. Having headlined the world’s biggest stages more than once, from Awakenings, Afterlife, Sonar, Timewarp, Nuits Sonores, and more, he continues to define modern techno, in a way that no one else can.
